What a thriller is...
Traditionally, thriller genre films are fast-paced and filled with action and fearful excitement. They aim to add anticipation and suspence to make the audience feel a little off-edge. Often with dramatic twists and added mystery - they tend to be about danger and murder. Characters often include an unexpected hero or heroin that has spent most of their life being the 'under dog'. Just as important as the traditional goody, there will always be a crazed criminal that brings down the city and puts everyone in danger; hunting down innocent victims and causing an even bigger mess for the hero to clean up.
Plots tend to involve: murder mystery, chase scenes, courts, victims in danger, gangs, crimes, erotica, and mild romance. In a traditional thriller, everything seems to fall apart as the plot reaches a climax, and the hero begins to be put to the test whilst the criminal makes an attempt to crush anything in their lives that will keep them fighting.
