This will help me to estimate how long each aspect should take in order to unravel in the way that I imagine it to. I need to strike the right balance between going too slow and too fast. If it is it too slow paced the audience will lose interest. However, I would like the beginning to show a relaxed movement as the picnic blanket makes it's way along the floor. Accompanied by the right music, it could raise a level of suspense and expectation. As the music picks up, I would like the objects to start moving quicker and the image to really start to form. Music is vitally important in this sequence because I will only be using gentle sounds. The objects should unfold much in the same way as the rhythm.
Music is one of the most important aspects of a film in terms of creating an atmosphere and manipulating the thoughts and feelings of the audience. I need music that begins in a mysterious and romantic way and seems to lose control by the end of the introduction. This is also a way of bringing in the characters.
Here are a couple of songs that I have looked at:
These both give an example of the way that I want the music to expand and become more dramatic.
Mumm-Ra - Light Up This Room
At 2:56 it gains a lot of energy as if lots of thoughts are all gathering up. It almost becomes aggressive before it lets go again and the instrumental comes to a close for the final line of the song. I really like the style of this song but the lyrics are far too miserable. I want to create a sense of distance as the couple end up realising that they were never right for each other - but I want the introduction to be more happy and to set the comedy mood for the rest of the film.
Queen - Seaside Rendezvous
Almost the opposite problem - Seaside Rendezvous has the same strength in the way that the music builds up and becomes very exciting. However, it leaves no clue as to the direction of the film. I want it clear that there is something wrong with the imagery in the opening of the movie and this has no implication of the struggles that the couple will face. One of the most important things to me is to make sure that the audience agree with the direction of the movie as it progresses. In addition to this, the lyrics just don't match the frame.
