Working from Adobe After Effects

We were taught to create simple shapes and alter text to create title and credit sequences by using Adobe After Effects. This was really useful as it gave me an idea of what I could expect to achieve and include in my movie opening. I hadn't considered much of the credits before the excercises, and throughout making these short sequences, started to think about the way I could present them in a movie. One idea I would like to look in to would be to use After Effects to develop text on top of the film. After Effects gives it the ability to use moving images where it may be more visually interesting then using appear and fade. This is something that I will focus on more as I develop my idea and am able to consider where text is needed - whether it should be subtle or more dramatic in order to add emphasis.

Anatomy of a Murder

This was my first attempt at using After Effects. I really struggled to get used to using the pen tool and joining the lines to create the body parts. As I got more used to the programme, I was able to experiment with the animation in order to make the legs and arms move in and out of the frame to look as though they are moving. I tryed to stick to the orginal Anatomy of a Murder sequence in terms of the shapes and their movement.

In The Vast

We learned how to make the text follow a path across and out of the frame. I don't like the look of it on a blank background, but I think it could be quite effective if it's following something in the frame. If I was to try this again, I would probably make the text smaller so that the path would move more remotely.

Alien

I quite like the way that the text increases in size, as if you are being pulled in to the frame. This looks very dramatic and suggests that about the film. It reminds of the way the Warner Bros text invites the viewer through the title to the Harry Potter movies.

Murder

I created this because I was interested in the way that the individual letters can fade in and out of focus. I tried to make it relatively slow, in a way which suggests gradual movement and suspense. This would be suitable for a movie title, but as I am looking at the romantic comedy genre I do not think that it would relate well to the theme. It depicts a more mysterious and unknown image.

The Teletubbies

This is my try at recreating the animation at the start of The Teletubbies introduction. I was quite pleased with my attempt, as I managed to stick to the sequence and movement of the scenery. I could improve it by spending more time altering the colour and creating a glow around the sun. I struggled to create the darkness at the beginning of the sequence.
